Kenneth Cole Productions (as told by Kenneth Cole) started one day when he got an idea and a dream to start a shoe company with limited money. He ended up sitting outside the Hilton with Kenneth Cole Productions painted on the side of a truck. Initially, the company was going to end in “Inc.”, but he was not allowed to use the truck if he wasn’t a “production company.” Needless to say, the name Kenneth Cole Productions paid off and he said it stuck with him to remind him of the importance of resourcefulness and innovative problem solving. The company is corporately located in New York, New York. The Chairman and Chief Creative Officer is Kenneth Cole himself, the CEO and Director is Paul Blum and the CEO and Treasurer is David Edelman.
It is interesting to hear the story of how this company started and that Kenneth Cole is still in charge of things today. I like that he is very hands on and has not let someone else take over what he so perfectly started with a dream and a little money in his pocket.
